Hello Dean, We apologize for not being able to respond to the 7 text messages you send late in the night on Friday, as we were closed for the weekend. We do share potential future failures when found in an effort to help a customer make an educated decision if it is worth their money to repair a vehicle depending on current work needed and the potential for future needs as well. Most people do not like any surprises so we try our best to share ALL of the detailed info we can, giving the best bang for their buck possible. The following information was provided exactly on the diagnostic invoice provided at check out~ Customer Concerns it came in for- Engine running poorly with flashing Check Engine Light (CEL). Coolant leak. Steering wheel vibration/shake at higher speeds. Diagnostic Findings A comprehensive inspection of the vehicle revealed multiple significant issues affecting engine performance, cooling system integrity, and vehicle safety systems. ~ Tech's Key diagnostics observations include: The cooling system was approximately one gallon low on coolant. The system was topped off with water for leak detection purposes. Oil residue was present in the coolant reservoir, and oil contamination was confirmed in the cooling syst. A chemical block test on the coolant turned yellow, positively indicating the presence of hydrocarbons (exhaust gases) in the cooling system. This confirms a head gasket failure and/or possible engine block crack. A dead cylinder was identified at idle. Further misfire testing was not performed due to the confirmed internal engine damage. The water pump is leaking coolant. The vehicle was not driven at highway speeds to avoid additional engine damage. Stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) The vehicle has an extensive list of active and history codes, indicating widespread system malfunctions largely stemming from the engine failure and resulting communication issues: Engine Control Module (ECM) – 17 Codes P0102: MAF Sensor Circuit Low Frequency P0118: ECT Sensor Circuit High Voltage P0121: TPS Performance P0128: ECT Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature P0171 / P0174: Fuel Trim System Lean (Bank 1 & 2) P0300: Random Misfire Detected P0326: Knock Sensor Performance P0335 / P0385 / P1372: Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuits P0420: Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) P0442 / P0455: EVAP System Leaks P0507: Idle Speed High P0742: Torque Converter Clutch Stuck On ABS / Brake / Related Modules – Multiple Codes (including C1214, C1248, wheel speed sensor issues, communication faults with PCM, etc.) Additional Modules (Instrument Panel, Rear Integration, Radio, Theft Deterrent, Magna Steer, etc.) showing communication losses with the PCM and various circuit/relay faults. These codes reflect secondary effects of the primary engine mechanical failure, low system voltage conditions, and data bus communication problems. Primary Recommendation Due to the confirmed head gasket (and/or block) failure combined with the vehicle’s high mileage, we strongly recommend full engine replacement rather than attempting head gasket or internal engine repairs. At this stage, partial repairs are likely to result in repeated failures and poor long-term reliability. Additional Likely Repairs The following components are expected to require attention either now or in the near future: Water Pump (already leaking). Catalytic Converter(s) – Due to P0420 and prolonged misfire conditions. Transmission – P0742 (Torque Converter Clutch) concerns; further evaluation recommended after engine replacement. ABS Module / Brake System – Multiple wheel speed sensor and module faults; red brake warning light is illuminated. Steering vibration at speed will require inspection of tires, wheels, suspension, and alignment once the vehicle is roadworthy. Other sensors, wiring, and modules may also need service once the engine is replaced and communication is restored. A full re-evaluation after engine installation is advised.
